The location
Cape Town's only true dune field, 45–60 minutes from central Cape Town, depending on traffic.
The Atlantis Dunes sit inside the Witzands Aquifer Nature Reserve on the West Coast. It is a protected aquifer recharge area, which is why access is permit-controlled and why every ride is guided.
The exact meeting point inside the reserve is confirmed with your booking, because the staging area moves with wind and dune conditions.
All quad bike riders require a valid permit to enter the Atlantis Dunes riding area inside the Witzands Aquifer Nature Reserve.
A compulsory permit and conservation fee of R300 per rider is added to the advertised quad biking tour price. This fee supports controlled access and conservation management within the protected reserve.
The permit fee applies to every rider, including riders joining private, transfer, birthday, group and corporate packages.
Permit availability is limited and all tours remain subject to reserve access, weather conditions and daily permit availability.
The permit fee is determined by the reserve and may change. Any change will be confirmed before payment.

The one-hour Atlantis Dunes tour is R950 per rider and the two-hour tour is R1 650 per rider. The compulsory reserve permit and conservation fee of R300 per rider is added on top, so totals are R1 250 and R1 950 per rider. Private tours start at R2 500 and packages with Cape Town transfers from R1 450 per rider.
Where do the quad biking tours take place?
All tours run at the Atlantis Dunes inside the Witzands Aquifer Nature Reserve, approximately 45–60 minutes from central Cape Town, depending on traffic. The route is N1 or M5 to the N7, then the R307 towards Atlantis and Silwerstroomstrand.
Do I need experience to ride a quad bike?
No. The quads are automatic, so there is no gear changing or clutch. Every ride starts with a safety briefing and hands-on training on flat sand before the group enters the dunes.
What days can I book?
Daily except Wednesdays, between 08:00 and 17:00. All departures are subject to daily reserve permit availability.
What is the reserve permit fee for?
The Witzands Aquifer Nature Reserve charges a compulsory permit and conservation fee of R300 per rider. It is a reserve charge, not ours, and it is listed as a separate line on every quote.
